The cynical view states that there is nothing interesting happening in fashion right now. While this may occasionally prove truthful every so often there comes an instance where someone does something wholly different and completely thoughtful editorially. Something that is not memorable because of the clothes or models but transcends to that next level wherein it is just plain unforgettable. AnotherMan enlisted painter “Christian Schoeler and photographer David Benjamin Sherry to collaborate on a truly unique project. Sherry photographed the artist clad in the seasons wares and Schoeler created several of his signature dreamy paintings of boys on the cusp of manhood.
The focus was not on an accurate visual representation of clothing or anything else for that matter, the goals instead lay in simply working with ideas – tansparency, masculinity, vulnerability – things that are poignant and meaningful in and of themselves and are for some strange reason rarely the focus of men’s magazines. Most of which would rather concern themselves with talk of the latest gadgets or 3k suits. The end result of Schoeler and Sherry’s collaboration is truly something to behold – the only downside being the natural constraints of the printed page. It would be truly impressive to see these images hanging in a gallery where one could really get a feel for their texture and fragility.
