ABC’s whimsical Pushing Daisies returned this week for its second season. Fans of the show’s macabre yet sunny plot lines were treated to another round of the Piemaker’s amusing jaunts into post-mortem detective territory and some of the best production design, art direction and costuming on television.

The creation of the extraordinary world occupied by the characters involves one part quirky ambiance – check out the eclectically colorful feel of the Piehole, the resident restaurant and another part retro nostalgia. From the oversized sunglasses to the glam headscarves, Chuck’s costumes rely highly on the lore of early 60s starlets. Everything about the show’s visual look is well selected and perfectly in line with the witty, idiosyncratic nature of the show itself.
