It could be the visual shock of the classic merged with the contemporary or the inherent audacity of anything less than a militia invading the home of a king – either way the Versailles staged exhibiiton Jeff Koons’ work is a study in American temerity. Koons’ work is known for being arresting in and of itself but taking the unrestrained kitsch of ‘Balloon Dog’ and placing in the hall of the Sun King and it creates a unique dichotomy. The extraordinary yet incongruous backdrop takes all that is familiar and beloved about Koons’ artwork and pushes it to the next level.
