The Brothers Bloom is garnering buzz for it’s witty take on the crime caper genre but it’s Beatrix Aruna Pasztor’s expressive costumes that provide half the visual excitement. In particular, Rinko Kikuchi’s explosives expert and “nitro-glycerine artist” the aptly named, Bang Bang is blessed with a wardrobe of kooky cool pieces that jump off the screen. Though she works with confidence men, Bang Bang is anything but incognito – she romps across the screen in Chanel S/s 07 sunglasses and natty fedora, then cocks her gun and fires into oblivion whilst wearing a shaggy fur coat and blood red lips. The visuals are over the top but the style is memorable, original and unquestionably cool.
