Deep dark lipstick is front and center for autumn. The fall shows for brands as diverse as Giles, YSL and Rodarte showed variations on a brooding theme. Shades ran the gamut from bordeaux to blackout depending on who was wielding the lip brush and editorially the look was just as popular with Numero, Vogue Paris and the New York Times all signing off. The nocturnal color selection can read as either sultry or gloomy – perfect for a fashion fantasy but tricky in reality. Who can really work a jet black pout save supermodels and goth tweens?
As daunting as such a bold color statement is, the look has already trickled down into department stores with this week’s MAC Cult of Cherry collection. Known for its uncompromisingly brazen color selection MAC apes the acid tinged lids and blackened purple lips seen at Derek Lam. The severity of the look may make eyebrows raise but the avant elegance behind it makes jaws drop.

I feel you; I’ve been obsessed with dark lipstick since f/w fashion shows but don’t have the balls to wear it…but I want to try!

In fact, a tricky color. I can’t even put on some red lipstick without losing the lips lines sort of, you know what I mean? Loved your blog
